MMI Closes $125 Million Series D to Scale Robotic Microsurgery Globally

The round, led by BioStar Capital, includes new investment from Angelini Ventures and builds on the €17 million co-investment announced with the European Investment Bank earlier this year

MMI (Medical Microinstruments, Inc.) has closed a $125 million Series D financing round to accelerate the global commercial growth of its Symani Surgical System. The round was led by existing investor BioStar Capital, with new investment from S3 Ventures, Angelini Ventures and an undisclosed strategic corporate partner, alongside continued support from existing investors.

The financing includes the €17 million co-investment we announced with the European Investment Bank in September - now part of this larger round - and reflects our growing conviction in MMI as it moves from early adoption to global scale.

With roughly 50 Symani systems installed and 3,500 complex microsurgical procedures completed worldwide, the new capital will fund commercial expansion in the U.S. and other key markets, broaden patient access, and advance clinical evidence — including the REMIND study — to extend the applications of robotic microsurgery.

Founded near Pisa in 2015, MMI’s Symani system combines the world’s smallest wristed microinstruments with tremor-reducing, motion-scaling technology, enabling procedures on structures as small as 0.1mm. It is authorized for use in the U.S. by the FDA and CE marked in Europe, and has been used across trauma, lymphedema, and head, neck and breast cancer cases.
